Fishing in Barcelona, in short
A licence is required, always
Including from the beach. One Catalan licence covers both the sea and inland water, from €3.25 for a single day.
The tide is 19 cm
Forget everything you know about timing a session around the tide. Here it is light and wind that decide.
Summer beaches are night-only
During the bathing season you may fish Barcelona’s beaches between 21:00 and 10:00. That is also when they fish best.
You must declare your catch
The Ministry’s PescaREC app became mandatory on 20 March 2026, and it applies to shore anglers too.

River mouth
Platja del Prat (Llobregat delta)
Wide delta beaches by the Llobregat mouth. Big open sand — proper surfcasting territory.
About this mark
Beach
Platja de Castelldefels
Long, shallow-shelving sand. Best on a building sea when the surf stirs food up.
About this mark

Rocky coast south of the city — the nearest genuine rockfishing. Take care on a swell.
About this mark
River
Riu Ebre a Tortosa
The lower Ebro through Tortosa — the only stretch of Catalan fresh water with a worldwide reputation. About two hours from Barcelona, and the same Catalan licence covers it.
